Counseling for medical seats in Punjab is organized by Baba Faridkot University of Health Sciences. This counseling is conducted for 85% seats in government medical colleges and 100% seats in private medical colleges. The remaining 15% of seats in government colleges fall under the All India Quota. Counseling for these 15% seats is conducted by the Medical Consultative Committee.

There are 3 government medical colleges and 5 private medical colleges in the state of Punjab. Students are required to compete for 600 government medical seats and 625 private medical seats. These seats require students to score qualifying marks in NEET UG examination i.e. minimum 50% for general category students and 40% for reserved category students.

Punjab domicile students can apply for seats in both government and private colleges. Students who are non-domiciled from the state of Punjab can apply for management quota seats in private medical colleges.

                      CAREER MEDIA                            OBSERVATIONS

Competition was high for government seats in the All India Kota in both rounds for the year 2019. The competition can be seen by the rank of the general category student who got the last seat. It was the 5667th ranked student who got the last seat in the AIQ seats.

Students can offer a private seat at a government fee of 220000, a management seat at 660000 and a seat at Adesh Institute of Medical Science at number 1190000.

Government Medical College, Amritsar is the most preferred option for the students. Many students have topped it while filling in the option. On the other hand, Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana is a top priority among all private medical colleges.

Punjab offers a much lower fee structure for private management seats among all private medical colleges in India after Kerala.

Students who are seeking private seats under the management quota are advised to target Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Science, Amritsar. Its cut off is less as compared to other medical colleges in Punjab.
